Tripoli- Sabrata- Nalut- Ghadames-Ghat-Acacus -Wadi Mathendoush-Murzuk Sand Sea-Germa-Ubari Sand Sea- Sabha - Gharyan - Ghirza - Zliten - Leptis Magna- Farwa Island - Tripoli

Probably the ultimate desert adventure, traveling across desert between Ghadames and Ghat alongside the Algerian/ Libyan border, exploration of the magnificent Acacus,a visit to the rock carvings of Wadi Mathendoush and then riding the dunes of the Ubari Sand Sea. Also visits the splendid Roman cities of Leptis Magna and Sabrata, the Libyan capital, Tripoli and the deserted Mediterranean island of Farwa. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included throughout.  Accommodation in 2,3,4 and 5 star hotels and camping.

• Day 1 Meet guide on arrival at Tripoli airport and transfer to Al-Kabir Hotel or Bab al-Bahr Hotel overlooking the Mediterranean.

• Day 2 Morning sightseeing in Tripoli, capital city of Libya, including the superb National Museum, Green Square, Arch of Marcus Aurelius and the mosques and souks of the old town where lunch will be taken at an old restaurant. In the afternoon, excursion to the Roman city of Sabrata with its remarkable Colonnaded Theatre.

• Day 3 Visit the centuries-old grain store of Qasr al-Haj and the hilltop grain store/citadel of Nalut. Continue to Ghadames for two nights.

• Day 4 Sightseeing in the enchanting oasis town of Ghadames with its labyrinthine passages and unique architecture. Lunch will be taken in a richly decorated traditional house.

• Days 5/6/7 Start of the desert adventure, travelling off-road alongside the Algerian border to Al-Awainat and on to Ghat. Wild camping except last night at campsite in Ghat.

• Days 8/9/10/11/12 Exploration of the magnificent Acacus with its spectacular scenery and millennia-old rock art. Also visit Wadi Mathendoush with its ancient petroglyphs, and the fringes of the immense Murzuk Sand Sea. Wild camping with last night at hotel in Germa.

• Day 13 In Germa, visit the museum and the remains of the ancient Garamantian warrior civilisation. Enter the Ubari Sand Sea to experience the great dunes and visit the desert lakes. Time to rest and enjoy a cooling swim at Lake Gabraoun. Wild camping among the dunes.

• Day 14 Continue exploration of the Ubari Sand Sea and exit to Sabha. Overnight at hotel.

• Day 15 Full day's drive north to Gharyan.
• Day 16 Excursion to the Punic temple tombs of Ghirza. Continue to Zliten for overnight.

• Day 17 Excursion to the magnificent Roman city of Leptis Magna. Continue to Tripoli for two nights.

• Day 18 Excursion to the deserted island of Farwa for a relaxing swim and picnic. Return to Tripoli.

• Day 19 Transfer to Tripoli airport for flight home.
